Tio’s Fine Treats
The Challenge
A mother & daughter came to RRD Design for the branding and packaging design for their high-end dog treats. Tio’s Fine Treats are home-made, all natural dog treats they created. The treats are going to be sold at smaller, more expensive pet stores like Mud Bay and All The Best. As a design intern, I was given the opportunity to create one of the potential brand and package directions for the owners to choose from in the initial stage of the process. They wanted a look that said “hand-crafted & high-quality”. Since they were a small business and just starting out, I was limited to using free typefaces.
The Solution
A stamp-style logo with a delicate modern typeface, saturated but fun colors, and a whimsical pattern of old, hand drawn dog illustrations. There was a shared Pinterest board with the owners and my supervisor from which I took inspiration and design cues. The owners wanted something that was high end and elegant. After doing competitor research, I realized that most of the treat packaging out there was bright and bold and I felt that Tio’s needed to be high-end but also fun and a punchy. To keep the packaging feeling elegant and more expensive I used the hand-drawn dog illustrations and craft paper, but also injected a little vibrancy with the bold colors and all-caps sans serif typeface.
